The majority of people involved in the fitness industry recognize the important role personal trainers play in the health of their clients. A personal trainer is more than just someone who is an expert in exercise and fitness instruction. Today’s personal trainer is someone who is educated and well-informed about many areas of health and fitness. While most personal trainers work at wellness centers and health clubs throughout the world many also work in training studios and out of their home. While there are many people calling themselves personal trainers unfortunately not all of these personal trainers are certified instructors. To be at the top of their profession, a personal trainer certification is considered a necessary achievement to success in the field.

Depending on one’s training and initial level of expertise, it takes usually takes approximately six to eight weeks to receive a personal trainer certification. There are several specific areas of study. Aerobic exercise, resistance exercise, and flexibility training are just a few venues that are included in the study. Personal trainers also must explore functional anatomy and biomechanics, nutrition and supplements, as well as health screening and evaluation. Hence, there are a number of areas one must focus on when studying to be a personal trainer. Therefore, personal trainers must concentrate on the different areas of training in preparation for personal trainer certification as they are tested in all these domains.

Here in the United States there are a number of personal trainer certifications, but unfortunately not all are credible. Even many of the established schools and companies are not accredited. However, there are a number of legitimate programs to choose from which are NCCA accredited. Although requirements vary most require a high school diploma, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) certification as prerequisites to testing. This suggests there is an established protocol to getting a personal trainer certification. Most credible organizations also provide education and training for certification preparedness, and will give anyone the means to accomplish their goal toward a personal trainer certification. An eagerness and desire to move ahead and become a personal trainer is the first step, but the decision to acquire a legitimate personal trainer certification is what differentiates one’s career future.
