In each installment we examine a new cutting edge company that’s pushing the boundaries of fashionable apparel, and has become an indispensable area of the fashion world. These labels would be the very definition of contemporary vogue, and we shall show case them 1 by 1.

Free People Clothing stand united for individual expression, femininity, creativity, and courage. They appeal to the free spirit in most women. Celebrities simply adore this line, and it’s easy to understand why. Free People Clothing blend the vintage with the modern and the urban with the rural to create a style that is the ultimate statement of recreational chic. This is what distinguishes Free People Clothing, and makes them such a worthy addition to this series.

Let's focus on some history. Free People Clothing is really a designer label which is area of the Urban Outfitters family of companies. It had been started by Dick Hayne during the early 1970’s in Philadelphia. His original store was called Free People. As the store grew in popularity, Dick quickly remarked that his audience was primarily young affluent urbanites, so upon opening his second store, he decided to alter the name to Urban Outfitters.

To satisfy with ever increasing interest in their exclusive Urban Outfitters brand, Dick and the wife Meg chose to launch an entire sale division from the company, which after appearing under various guises, would ultimately be named Free People Clothing once more.

Which was in 2001. It was at this time over time, that Free People Clothing truly embraced their mission of appeal and nurturing to young free spirited women of courage and passion. This is when Free People Clothing, as we know them today, truly came into existence. And such a wonderful metamorphosis it's been. Just take a look at a few of the beautiful pieces they have to offer. Effortless chic and sweetness as only Free People Clothing can deliver.

More Recently, Free People have concluded that their appeal is visible as though through the eyes of female archetypes. Which all women share part of, however in whom some tend to be more dominant than the others. This was a revolutionary move for that fashion industry, as it allowed Free People Clothing not only to focus on each archetype individually, but also make all of their line readily accessible to all, thus supplying the ultimate in flexibility to women wanting to explore all of their archetypes. An extremely Jungian approach.

What exactly are these archetypes?

Well, there’s Meadow, the bohemian dreamer, who has her head n the clouds. She prefers loosely fitting summer dresses that flow as freely as her spirit, as she wanders our planet in search of beauty and inspiration.

Then there’s Candy. She’s a girly kind of girl. She loves flowers and pretty things. She once imagined a pony, and adores sentimental gifts. She's filled with love and compassion. Pink is her favorite color. She loves short skirts, and a more snug fit to exhibit off her feminine curves. Above all else she likes intricate detailing on her clothing.

Ginger is the flower girl temptress. She loves skimpy outfits, and also to wear flowers in her hair. She's entirely charge of her sexuality, and like to live life to the out most. She loves tie dyes and floral prints. The 60’s have never left as far as Ginger is concerned.

Next there’s Lou. She’s a tom boy, and damn proud of it. She will rock overalls or short shorts with a Tee, and appear amazing doing so. She’s fearless, tough, and spirited. She’ll play tackle football, go walk the dogs, and then slip into a night time dress for a fun night on the town.

And finally, there’s Sandy. She’s the beach girl. Casual summer wear is her thing. She’s got one hundred different swimsuits, and loves to layer pieces with her bikini. She adores sunglasses and big beach hats. Relaxing and taking things easy is her M.O. A nice long walk together with her companion beside the ocean on the hot summer night is her idea of a perfect evening.

It is this innovative approach to not just marketing, but understanding their subscriber base, which makes Free People Clothing stand out from the remainder. Not to mention the elegance and sheer coolness of all their designs.
