My guide to holidays in both destinations, from beaches, sights to parties. A guide for every generation.
Hard to decide but hopefully I can give my verdict on the matter. They are among the most popular destinations in the United States and luckily for you readers I have being to both. So where should I start the ‘sunshine state’ or the ‘big apple’?

Coin flipped and heads it’s……… Florida:

What can I say; a paradise for beach lovers, glorious sunshine, white sandy beaches, and beach volleyball (oh yes my favourite)! Florida’s coastline is full of great beaches to go to, if you’re looking for fun beaches that the kids will enjoy, then go to Panama city beach, Fort Lauderdale, Daytona, Miami and many more. But if you’re like me white, pasty and see the sun for those 2 months that come randomly each year in Northern Europe i.e. May then possibly August, then head to some of Florida’s hidden gems. I like to relax in the sun, go for a swim and do some reading, they’re easy to find, only short drives from the hustle bustle of high rises and shopping malls, think local beaches not state beaches.

Beaches Aside, Florida is probably best known for Disneyland. Forget Euro-Disney, this makes it look like a travelling funfair in comparison. Great place for families, couples and big kids, I could get lost for days in the countless number of theme parks. But to be honest at about day 3, I got bored, maybe I’m getting too old but there was an urge inside of me to start partying.
Florida is famed for Spring Break meaning it would be great for partying and yes it didn’t disappoint, walking through Miami with a cocktail in my hand and Will Smiths song in my head, I had a great few nights, always some party on somewhere!

New York, the big apple, the city that never sleeps, an amazing work of art, very easy city to get around, never really crowded only on Times Square. I definitely heart NY. There is so much to see and do in this city, prices are not over the top for such a large city and people can definitely enjoy a budget holiday. Tipping is a big thing but it’s not like the movies where the bag handler stands and waits for a tip, if you forget you forget, we’re all tourists we can’t remember all the time!

I tried to do as much as I could for my 10 days there and I have to say if you are well organised you can do the whole city in that time, that’s not to say that I wouldn’t like to go back, I would in a heartbeat. New York is inspiring, just to see the feats man can do is amazing, and the skyscrapers are like the pyramids of our day. Definitely do both of the observation decks, top of the rock and Empire State, see which you prefer? Visit Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, Bronx Zoo and Statue of Liberty. The queues for the statue are very long and tiresome, but worth it, you will go through about 3 searches.

Night time in New York is great for the views but sadly I found the partying a bit hard to find, clubs are hidden away, even taxi’s struggle to bring you to a happening place. There are however a multitude of bars, everywhere, Irish bars, I am Irish so maybe this is why I didn’t enjoy the nightlife, I left Ireland to look for something new!

My verdict: It’s hard to split them but I can just say visit both, not just because I work for a travel company but just like the age old question Blur or Oasis?
