Do you own an iPad, but haven’t filled it up with apps as yet? We believe that is a huge disappointment! And we urge you to rectify that, very quickly. To help you with that, here is a list of what we believe are the must have apps for the iPad. It is time to fire up the App Store, and start downloading.
Zite
On paper, Zite is just a news aggregator. But then, open the app and it is a lot more. The entire layout is based on a conventional magazine, and you flick through pages as you usually would, on the paper magazine that is. Has an uncluttered layout, no social networking intrusion and customizable to a certain extent. If it is news that you want, this is the no-distraction app for you.
Hootsuite
How is it better than the official Twitter client, you may ask? Well, Hootsuite can do Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare as well. With full-fledged access, post, comment and message capabilities across these networks, Hootsuite also allows users to schedule Twitter updates. We have always liked apps like Tweetdeck, which allow access to multiple social networking sites within one window. For the iPad, Hootsuite is by far the best one available.
PressReader
If you are one of the news junkies or the hardcore readers who like to read global newspapers, this app is just for you. Brought to you by the same guys who ship international newspapers globally, Newspapers Direct Inc., this app allows access to 1800 newspapers from 94 countries on 48 different languages. Each paper costs US$ 0.99, but those who read a lot could also select a monthly tariff plan from within the app.
Dropbox
File and folder sync and backups can give a major headache, of the right tools are not used. Dropbox is one such right tool, which will sync your files and folders across every device the app is installed on. Want to save a bunch of photos you want to show the family at home in the evening, but don’t have the time to sync it to your iPad? Save it in a Dropbox folder. Switch on the iPad at home, and files will be instantly synced. Absolutely essential app, if you want the files synced across multiple devices.
CineXPlayer
It is unbelievably painful to try and get a video into the iPad, via iTunes, if iTunes doesn’t like the video format. And it doesn’t like most common formats like .AVI, .MKV and However, CineXPlayer is the app that will solve the problems, and we feel it is worth the money. Essentially, download this on the iPad. Connect the iPad to iTunes. Head off to the applications tab. There, you will see CineXPlayer there. Click on “add”, and browse to the video which you want to transfer to the iPad. We have played a variety of video files on it, and the playback was seamless. This one wins over the Air Video app, since there isn’t the need to remain connected to any network with this one.
We will keep posting you on more good apps to download on the iPad, in the future. And if you find any good apps, do let us know.
