Our liver has a very important role in metabolism and other functions such as glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, protein synthesis, hormone production, and detoxification of the body. It is situated over the gallbladder in the right portion of the stomach. Because of these, the liver became high-risked to various diseases.
A five to ten percent accumulation of fats against the total weight of the liver could already lead to a certain disease such as fatty liver. Thus, fatty liver diagnosis and treatment an early stage is crucial since there is no artificial organ or any artificial devices at the moment that could replaced all the functions of the liver.
Diagnosis of fatty liver indicates that a person has an enlarged liver or minor elevation of liver enzyme tests. Several studies show that fatty liver is one of the most common causes of isolated minor elevation of liver enzymes found in routine blood screening.
Diagnosis can be seen on images of the liver through undergoing an ultrasound test, CT scan, or MRI. The images results could reflect any presence of a fatty liver. To be certain whether a patient has fatty liver requires a liver biopsy, in which a small sample of liver tissue is obtained through the skin and analyzed under the microscope.

1. AFLD or alcoholic fatty liver disease is primarily due to heavy consumption of alcoholic beverages because alcohol hinders the oxidation of fatty acids in the liver and the release of fatty acids from the liver as it slows down the discharge of low-density lipoproteins (LDL) in the bloodstream. A person will then be advised to control alcohol level intake and may be advised to refrain drinking alcohol for a faster recovery period.
2. On the other hand, NAFLD or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is caused by several factors such as high-fat diet, obesity, diabetes, hyperinsulinemia, and metabolic disorder. Weight and sugar level are the main keywords for such disease, thus, changing of eating habits and getting involve with daily physical exercises in order to lose weight are essential for its treatment. Introducing green-leafy vegetables and fruits especially rich in vitamin C in your diet will then be advised since these groups do not only aid in digestion but enhances resistance as well.
Obesity is also one of the main causes of fat accumulation in the liver. Regular exercise such as brisk walking, jogging, swimming, biking, and dancing among others could stimulate circulation and help flush fats from the liver.
Fatty liver is actually a normal condition unless it will reach its extreme condition. Don't wait for it to happen - repair your liver immediately! Diagnose now and treat soon!
