Father of the bride speeches are simple to write

Father of the bride’s speeches should be short, sincere and loving.
The father of the bride is often a worried man. He may love his daughter greatly but is not too sure of his ability to write a speech that expresses his feeling properly. His daughter is often worried that he will make a mess of the speech and embarrass her, as well as himself, at the wedding breakfast.

There is really no need for all that worry. Father of the bride speeches do not have to be long. They should welcome guests including the new groom and his family. There may also be someone special who should be mentioned such as a 100 a year old grandmother who left her hospital bed to attend or someone who has travelled across the world to be present.

They should say how much their daughter means to them and tell an anecdote or two about their daughters’ growing years. The father of the bride may, for instance, have got lost while taking her mother to the hospital. He could speak about his daughter’s favourite storybook or game and mention what she had done since she became an adult. He may, tongue in cheek decide to skip over her teenage activities. Overall his speech should express his pride in her and, if appropriate her warmth, her generosity or her academic or other achievements.

The father of the bride speeches should contain good wishes for her future. They may include some advice on how best to succeed in marriage and some words of wisdom for the groom. Fathers of the bride often escape all the frantic activities preceding the wedding itself and may mention that they believe that such work is women’s work and compliment their womenfolk on how well organised everything is considering that they only took an advisory role.

A wedding is very much a family affair and it is nice if the father proudly mentions the fact that the pretty bridesmaids or handsome ushers are his other children. He could also mention his wife and explain that his daughter was like her mother in many special ways. A wedding speech is about making people feel valued. So if an aunt has made the wedding cake or an uncle provided the wedding cars it is appropriate to mention that. If it is a church wedding a thank you to the pastor is polite and, as this is often forgotten, greatly appreciated.

Above all a father of the bride wedding speech should be gracious and should end with an appropriate toast to the bride and groom
