Metal detector troubleshooting is done on the basis of the problem. Because it is an electronic device so lots and different types of problems can occur. The good news is that all them can be easily troubleshooted.

Number of metal detectors are available in the market of different types ready to work on different basis. But all of them have the same configuration to work, so the problems are also almost same for all of them. Some of the problems are discussed here along with there solutions.
The main problem that can occur with any high quality metal detector is the power line interference, they are sophisticated electronic devices. There is high requirement of power which comes without any fluctuation and low voltage. The voltage spike problem can cause due to lots of other equipments are running on the same power. The common issue of voltage spike occur due to the use of heaters, motors or similar heavy current load.
There is one more issue in which twisting of metal detector's head creates problem. The metal detector effect the most on a flat surface area, it is not so much effective on area such incline or decline surface. The odd surface will cause to twist or turn the head of the metal detector where all the bolts are tightened very hard. The scenario can create false triggers or drifting, in addition if the detector is mounted over any conveyor or stand then it is important for the support to be firmly on the floor.
If the metal detector that you are using is set up to run on frozen items and suddenly if any half-melted item comes in its path then it will also detect a false trigger. This is because the product has been assigned to detect frozen items and when suddenly any melted or half-melted thing come in its line then the signals coming from that particular semi-thawed product is detected as different signal. The metal detector is made to work on the basis of transmitting and receiving signals from an antenna, the other things present in the area can also become susceptible parts. Microwaves, faulty plug wire or radio signals from walkie-talkie are also responsible for false triggers.
Lots of false triggers are also mean very difficult to locate such as ground loop. The possible sources of ground loops are loose bolts or poorly designed reject devices etc.
