The UK market for both new and used cars is at a low as car owners decide to refrain from buying a new vehicle and instead opt to hang on to their current vehicle for a bit longer or to down size from a larger car to a smaller more economical model. In addition to this many families who own two cars are now moving back to single-car ownership.
This is of course disastrous for car dealers who struggle to shift new cars from their forecourts but it also affects the used car industry as the downsizing leaves the market awash with great value used cars .Kent and other regions have seen a marked drop in prices and the average price drop for used cars in 2011 so far is £120. One of the biggest bargains is the Mazda MX-5, probably because buyers have become more pragmatic and shun away from less practical cars such as convertibles. Other examples are larger family vehicles such as the Citroen C6 and the Peugeot 607 which have dropped around 26 percent in price as compared to last year.
But it’s not all doom and gloom for used car dealers as prices for used small cars have remained stable as a result of the increased demand. The drop in prices for less desirable vehicles because of the versatility or size also means that the consumer can get a bargain. Amongst more expensive car types prices have dropped 5 percent as compared to last year and the aforementioned Mazda MX-5 has dropped around 18 percent.
So if you’re in the market for a used car, now is your chance to get a good bargain. And you don’t have to hurry either, consider your options carefully and make sure you get the best deal possible.
