When you need commercial printing for your marketing materials, your commercial printer will set the price or cost of printing orders. If you stick with a printer and have different types of printing jobs done, you will realize that the cost will in fact vary depending on your projects. Prices for brochures for example would definitely vary from the price per copy of flyers or newsletters. Let’s take a closer look at some of the factors which will determine the cost of printing so we will at least have a basic understanding as to what makes up prices of printing orders.
a. Printing Time Frame – this pertains to the period of time you allow for the printing jobs to be done. Since printers are dealing with loads of printing tasks at a time, you can only imagine how busy they are. And if you really demand for printing jobs to be done within such a short period of time, you can only expect for you to be charged a higher cost. Therefore, if you are not such in a hurry, why don’t you give your printer ample time to finish the work and turnover printing jobs to you? This would mean that you won’t have to pay for extra charges because you had them hurry the printing process.
b. Colors You Choose – In printing, the more colors are used, the higher the cost of your material will turn out to be. The simpler the colors are, the lesser the cost will be. Colors which are set to CMYK format will be less expensive than those which are set to RGB since your printer still have to convert them RGB colors or perform color matching. If you want less expense, go for colors which are plain and simple and are in the same hue. Most importantly, set them to CMYK format. Now, if you want your materials to be colorful and have every color you can think of, be sure to be ready to pay the price as well.
c. Paper type – The type of paper to be used for your materials is also a highly important determinant to the cost of your printing orders. Thicker papers will of course be more expensive. This kind of paper is ideal for brochures and catalogs and other similar printing materials. Even the paper size will also have a direct effect on the total cost of your order. Of course, printed materials that would require bigger papers will be more expensive than those which will only need printing on small papers.
d. The number of copies to be printed – This is where the irony comes in because in commercial printing, the more prints you order, the lesser the cost of the materials per copy would become. You heard it right! What an irony. Well, this is a fact in the commercial printing industry. You should take advantage of this and if you will be using plenty out of your materials; then go ahead and request for more copies of it. The more copies you order, the lesser the cost per copy will be and you will also have a chance to negotiate for discounts when you order more.
When setting your budget for a commercial printing project, put these things into consider so you have an idea as to how much the cost of your printing will be. This way, you won’t be shocked after knowing the price set by your commercial printer because you have a basic understanding of how that price was computed.
