Facebook has upped the ante in its race with Google to retain its position as the number 1 social-networking site. At one of the last counts it has 440,000,000 members and that’s an lot of potential customers for any business. Google has launched Google + but has asked businesses (among them the Ford Motor Company and Sesame Street) to refrain from using the site for the moment. In the meantime at the end of July Facebook launched its Business pages.
It seems that businesses and their marketing teams have been slow to recognize te potential of having a site on Facebook, but as they are realizing that this site is the best way of advertising- by word-of-mouth, there is little doubt that they will be queuing up to join. Facebook have issued an easy to follow step-by-step guide for businesses in an effort to simplify the process of having a web page for a business.
Businesses have to initially think of how they want to present themselves to the fans they may have already around the world, and then get it onto the Facebook pages. It’s rather like the personal pages in that a business can acquire fans, so businesses are encouraged to tell their personal friends on Facebook about the new site and get them to be come fans of the new business site. As their network of friends see the new site they have joined, so they will probably visit the site and see if they like it. If they do, then the number of fans a new business site has could mushroom.
Facebook for businesses could be a forum for customers and clients to discuss a product or a service which the business offers, and reviews could be posted onto the Wall on the profile page for others to read as they visit the site. Videos can be uploaded easily, as Facebook are very serious about encouraging businesses to have a bigger profile on its pages. Obviously Facebook are keen to have businesses join its site now as Google have said that they will be allowing businesses to utilize the Google+ site in the next few months. In the cut-throat internet world, a few months can mean a lot more clients / members for Facebook.
If you are a small business wishing to see a rapid growth in sales, then advertising your presence on Facebook will certainly not harm sales, and could lead to them soaring in a few months. The pages are user friendly and are similar to the ones you crate when you join Facebook as an individual, so there’s nothing complicated in uploading your company’s details. Why not take a look at the how to guide and imagine how it could affect your business in a positive way?
