What is Stress?
Stress is a feeling usually appear when we react to particular events. It is a way that we react to rise a challenge and prepare to meet a tough situation with focus, strength, stamina, and heightened alertness.

How to explain stress physiologically?
Each people have their own way of reacting to stress, but usually stress are occurred at the same way physically.

Our human body responds to events that cause stress by activating the nervous system and specific hormones. The hypothalamus signals the adrenal glands to produce more of the hormones adrenaline and cortisol and release them into the bloodstream. These hormones speed up heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure, and metabolism. Blood vessels open wider to let more blood flow to large muscle groups, putting our muscles on alert. Pupils dilate to improve vision. The liver releases some of its stored glucose to increase the body's energy. And sweat is produced to cool the body. All of these physical changes prepare a person to react quickly and effectively to handle the pressure of the moment.

What can stress do to human?
Proper stress can enhance a person’s ability to perform well under pressure, but too much stress, which is more than a person can bear, will cause some problems physically and mentally.

Where does stress come from?
In most times, stress appears when facing with and emergency situation, for example when a driver has to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident, or it will be activated in a milder form at a time when the pressure occurs but there’s no actual danger, for example while you are stepping up to take the foul shot that could win the game, while you are getting ready to go to a big dance or just sitting down for a big exam.

But there are other situations that stress will be such as some ongoing or long-term events, such as coping with a divorce or moving to a new neighborhood or school, can cause stress, too.

What will they affect our life such as the stress cause by emergency situation and ongoing events?
Stress cause by the emergency situations occur when we are trying to respond to such situations and find the way to deal with them, such as taking the big exam. A little of this stress can help keep your toes, and make you ready to be active to things happen around and rise to a challenge. The nervous system will quickly return to its normal state, standing by to respond again when needed.

However, the ongoing and long-term stressful situations can produce a lasting, low-level stress that’s hard on people. The nervous system senses continued pressure and may remain slightly activated and continue to pump out extra stress hormones over an extended period. This can wear out the body's reserves, leave a person feeling depleted or overwhelmed, weaken the body's immune system, and cause other problems.

How to deal with stress and make good use of it?
If you feel too much stress, you can release it by doing things as follows.

1.Call a friend and talk. Maybe sometimes you only need someone to listen to you, and your friend may give you some good advice to handle your so-called problems.

2.Get some distance from situations that make you stressful and think it systematically. No matter what you are facing-a huge work deadline or an unexpected visit from others-you can pretend you are asking to give some advice to a friend in need, stay away from the problem and think through the problem systematically.

3.Take a whiff of lavender which aroma can reduce stress levels when you are facing tough problems. Keep a small bottle of lavender oil or lotion in your purse for when you're feeling overwhelmed.
