Any fragrance can be magical for it has the ability to enhance moods and uplift spirits. Moreover, fragrances can also have many positive effects on our daily lives as well as the lives of people around us. Using any good fragrance can bring about a whole load of positive energy to a person's house, car and office.
From the dawn of the civilization itself, fragrance products have been doing the round. There have been many famous scents since time immemorial which have managed to capture the imagination of men and women alike. Taking a closer look at the historical perspective, the word "perfume" also comes from the Latin word "per fume" literally translating into "through smoke." To make perfect sense, since the earliest fragrances well known to human race were also associated with the burning of incense or aromatic herbs during religious gatherings and processions.

Harmonising fragrances with the skin tone

Hard to believe, but factors such as diet, medication, acid balance, skin oil, pigmentation, mood, and environmental factors can greatly influence whether a fragrance will suit the skin or not. The skin chemistry has a big role to play whether a fragrance will stay or not. Any change in the diet, climate, medication and stress levels will go on to change the way a fragrance smells on the skin. Called the olfactory fatigue, it means it is about time to move on to a whole new fragrance altogether.

Types of fragrances

• Earth: Strongly comprising of an earthly base, these fragrances are made from minerals and plants. Sandalwood, cinnamon, honey and vanilla are some of the earth bases; simple yet mysterious.

• Citrus: Citrus fruits like oranges, mandarins, lemons and bergamots are high on citrus-based fragrances which are light and fresh.

• Floral: Made either from a mix of different kinds or a single flower, floral fragrances are supposed to be sweet yet strong.

• Musk: Originally obtained from the odorous sacs of animals, particularly the Asian musk deer and the civet, fragrance companies have nowadays switched to creating musk scents synthetically.

Underlining the difference

Well, a women's perfume will be tilted more to the floral side while a men's cologne will have higher quantities of citrus, wood and lavender. But, the rules have changed and as the case is women have started enjoying the strong citrus or warm woods in men's fragrances and men have started to like the sensuality offered by a women's spicy oriental and woody scents.
