The GMAT exam is an exam organized by the Graduate Management Admission Council. This exam is basically conducted to undergo a detailed study of a student’s applicability for an MBA program at a standard management institute. The GMAT exam is usually conducted by various institutes all around the globe. This particular exam tests a student on the basis of his English as well as Mathematical skills. The paper is divided into verbal section, analytical writing assessment and quantitative section.
The verbal division consists of objective based questions. There are in total 41 questions in the verbal section. The questions are classified on the basis of critical reasoning, sentence correction and reading comprehensive. The analytical writing division is further divided into two essays. For the first essay the student is expected to analyze a suitable argument whereas for the second one the student is expected to analyze a suitable issue. The quantitative division is made up of 37 questions. The quantitative division usually consists of two types of questions viz. data sufficiency and problem solving. The questions are multiple choice questions. The student is expected to complete the quantitative division within 75 minutes. The total time limit for the entire paper is 3 ½ hours.
The standard and the level of the questions depend on the answers given by the candidate at the beginning of the exam. The level of difficulty of the consecutive questions depends on the ability of the candidate to answer the first question. The GMAT exam requires a lot of dedication, sincerity and hard work on the part of the student. Before beginning with the GMAT test prep there are a few basic tests the candidate should conduct with oneself. The tests are as follows-
• Self-assessment test- Before beginning with the GMAT preparation the candidate should undergo a GMAT diagnostic test. This may help him get a better idea about his current aptitude level. It will help him channelize his attention towards the important parts.
• Read books- Once the student is done with the diagnostic test he should start reading reference books. This might give him a chance to work on his weak points.
• Practice tests- Many websites have come up with the idea of an online GMAT practice test. The candidate should try and appear for these practice tests. The tests can give them a very clear idea about the entire criteria of the GMAT exam. The candidate should make it a point to sit for at least 20 practice tests before sitting for the final exam.
The scores for the GMAT exam are delivered by mail to the residential address of the respected candidate. The candidate could also apply for the unofficial test scores immediately after the exams. However, since the analytical writing section is marked independently the candidate might be unable to obtain the marks of that particular section.
