A Cars Fuel Pump Module Assembly is engineered to consistently supply fuel at pressure as high as 75 psi or more as it is integrated to an impeller attached to the end of the motor shaft that draws in fuel from one end and pushes it out at the other end of the Pump. An electric pump motor that powers the Fuel Pump is attached to internal pressure relief valve that dumps excess pressure right back into the Car's Fuel tank.

There's also a cylindrical plastic enclosure that houses the fuel pump and motor with a specialized spring-loaded frame which is also included to give the enclosure the support it needs by keeping it connected to the fuel tank. The Fuel Pump is located near the rear in most of the Car's and it can usually be heard when the engine starts.
The Fuel gauge monitoring unit consists of a float connected to a variable resistor so as the fuel is used and the fuel levels drop low in the tank, the float variably drops which in turn reduces the current that is sent to the gauge from the variable resistor, engaging the fuel gauge needle to also fall in the Car's dash board. Old Cars used Carburetor based engines with a mechanical Fuel Pump, while modern day Cars come equipped with Fuel Injection systems that use electronic Fuel Pump units that use advanced electronics in them to expel less heat, with heat transfer Pads to minimize conduction to heat.
If you find your Car's Fuel Pump Assembly is malfunctioning do check for the fuse box you, as you could locate the fuse box with a little help from your Car's manual for signs of damage such as scorch marks on it. If the fuses seems to be blown out, do also check the relays to eliminate future wire problems and replace them as soon as possible. Getting the exact amount of fuel into your Car's engine is crucial for its overall performance.
