Ever Wanted To Know What DVD Duplication Was All About?

A firm specialising in DVD Duplication in London describes what the process involves and why it works for small quantities.
You’ve probably heard the terms DVD Duplication but are not very sure exactly what they mean. Certainly the term is all about copying data or graphics from a DVD onto another disc. But this is a specialised technical process and not as simple as just duplicating a single CD from a home computer.

So how is it done? This process is a bit like that of CD duplication, the only real difference being the amount of data that is ultimately being written to the disc (a higher density).

The duplicator itself is usually in a ‘tower’ form. It is fitted with rows of burners, very similar to those found on a home personal computer. The disc tower however will have a main control centre, allowing it to function without reliance on a personal computer.

It is also possible for a disc tower to be fitted with a hard drive. In this case the data to be copied gets loaded, not from a master disc but the hard drive itself.

Once the data itself is transferred the disc can then be printed using a variety of formats such as ink-jet, thermal printing (good for block colour) or screen printing (this method is very good for high volumes but avoid photographs or other digital image forms if employing this).

This process for example, comes into its own as a method of reproducing data when it is a quantity less than 500 units that is required. More than this and DVD replication would be the most cost-effective method to choose since this method is, in the main, charged per disc. As a result, the more discs produced, the lower the unit cost and overall charge of the project.

Duplication is also good if the disc's are needed within a short time-scale. DVD replication involves making a glass master which can take time to produce. With duplication the discs can be produced straight away, often within a couple of days for quantities of around 400.

If your numbers change however, and you suddenly find that it is more like 1000 rather than 300 discs you need then happily you will probably find that most Data Video Disc duplication companies also offer a number of replication services.

Certainly, the process is a lot lengthier in terms of time-scale but it might not necessarily work out too much more expensive with the higher number of discs. Not only that but the quality will also be excellent. And, again, you will be able to order your own customised artwork packaging and printing to your own specifications in terms of design and colour, just as in duplication. Most firms will also offer distribution options so there is no need to hire a van.

In essence then, if you are looking for replication or duplication of Data Video Disc's or even, if it comes to it, duplication of CDs or indeed CD replication in London then this can easily be achieved without too many difficulties.
