Introduction
In this article I shall be explaining some of the different equipment that can be used to shoot wedding photographs and to help you on your way to becoming great wedding photographers.

Get yourself a high quality camera!
When you are about to undertake such and important job such as taking someones wedding photos you need to ensure you have a great quality camera and all the kit to go with it! “But where do i find £1000, I only have £100!” – The answer, rent one! Many local camera shops have bodys, lenses and all the other kit you will need to enable you to get all the best shots on the day. They will also offer discounts usually to entice you for multi-day rental, “But I only need it for that day” DUM DER, incorrect – You need to ensure you know how to use the camera and have had plenty of practice with the camera you have just rented, as every camera is different you will need to get used to it, for some people that can mean a short time of say 1hour, others may need weeks if not months and still not get it just how they want it. If there are no local shops around you that offer this, have a look around the web, there are many companies that do rentals based on couriers and you send it back at the end of the rental, some of these companies are also cheaper to as the website is cheaper to own and operate that a shop based business.

Ok, I’ve got a camera!
The list doesn’t stop there! You will most likely need – Lenses, Flashes, Umbrellas, Light stands, flash triggers, battery packs/chargers, camera bag, gaffer/duct tape in black and white.

Lenses
Ensuring you have a good selection of lenses to use for your shots allows you to be versatile and be able to get the ‘perfect’ shot that captures the moment. There are a wide selection of lenses on the market and any camera/photography shop assistant should be able to help you find the lense just right for the shots your customer wants. Speak to the customer/client before going to get the camera and lenses and find out what style of shots they want for their photographs and scout the location out prior to allow you to get lenses that capture the scene, target and landscape perfectly.

Flashes
To allow you to get the best shots in the dark environments (the first dance & the end of the day shots for example) you will need to ensure that you have flashes for use on your camera, either powered via umbrella based flash systems or via slot on flashes powered by the camera.

Batteries
Ensure you always have spare batteries and power packs. If you are not used to shooting with flashes normally then also be aware that any flashes powered via a camera will affect the battery life of the unit so be prepared!

Camera Bag
If you are used to having you camera around your neck on a strap and taking the occasional shot then the chances are you will not have a dedicated camera bag and equipment bag. To ensure that you have all your equipment invest or rent a large sized camera bag or bring a camera bag and equipment bag to ensure all your gear is protected and organised in the event of urgency.

Tape
This sounds so cliché but having tape around is useful, from stopping a vale blowing and flapping around in the wind to holding the best mans bow tie together, tape is always useful so ensure you have some lying around incase of emergency.
