There is a wide variety of tourist attractions in Dar es Salaam and all the places can be accessed comfortably from any corner of the city. The largest city of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam has lot to offer to all the tourists coming here for holidays. There are many tourist attractions in Dar es Salaam and all the places are quite popular among the local people and the visitors coming here.
Dar es Salaam means "House of Peace" in Arabic. For a city which such a name it is a surprisingly busy and lively place where it is sometimes hard to find some rest. Dar es Salaam is Tanzania’s major city and its capital in everything but name. ‘Dar’ is a down-to-earth place, with a picturesque seaport and enough historic buildings, shops and good restaurants to keep you busy for a few days. The city has a mix of African, Arabic and Indian influences yet keeps close ties to its Swahili roots.

Askari Monument

The bronze Askari Monument is dedicated to Africans killed during WWI. Rudyard Kipling, the famous British writer and poet wrote the inscription that appears in English and Swahili.

Azania Front Lutheran Church

The remarkable, red-roofed Azania Front Lutheran Church was built by German missionaries in 1898 and has gained popularity as a major place for worship for the local Christian community. The whitewashed facades, tiled canopies and beautiful garden face the harbour.

Botanical Gardens

These leafy, tranquil gardens, which date from the German colonial era, offer a haven of peace from the maelstrom of central Dar es Salaam. Numerous types of attractive palms and ferns flourish here, whilst peacocks can be found roaming the grounds.

There are many historical sites and monuments in this city like the Askari Monument. This place has got the statue of a soldier in uniform of the First World War. The Botanical Gardens of the city is also a very beautiful place to visit. There are various species of plants in the garden which include some unique species as well. The city has got some religious sites as well like the Azania Front Lutheran Church which is a must visit place. The Karimjee Hall is also a very interesting place where the tourists can pay a visit.

The National Parks of the city are worth visiting among which the renowned ones are the Mikumi National Park and Ruaha National Park. The State House of the city is also one of the popular attractions in Dar es Salaam.
