Far infra red radiation is radiated from the human body and from a heated building. Glass totally absorbs this radiation and in the winter re-radiates it to the outdoors. Klingshield’s reflective film reflects a significant portion of this energy back into the room.
The energy of the sun reaching the earth is approximately 3% of ultra violet radiation (fading rays), 50% visible light radiation (light) and 47% infra red radiation (heat).
Ultra violet light causes about two thirds of the fading in fabric.
Visible light, heat and pollution cause the balance.
All Klingshield’s window film absorbs 99% of the ultra violet radiation.
Visible light from the sun causes glare and fatigue and contributes to air conditioning costs. Klingshield’s solar films control visible radiation without a significant reduction in visible acuity because of the compensation by the human eye An 80% reduction in incident light results in a reduction of only 10% in visual acuity.
Near infra red radiation is transmitted through the glass and contributes to increase airconditioning costs.

from Klingshield substantially reduces the transmission of near infra red.
Far infra red radiation is radiated from the human body and from a heated building. Glass totally absorbs this radiation and in the winter re-radiates it to the outdoors. Klingshield’s reflective film reflects a significant portion of this energy back into the room.
A single pane of strengthened glass will allow 85% of the sun’s energy striking the window to be transmitted or passed through it. The same pane of glass covered with Klingshield’s silver 20 reflective film will allow only 14% of the sun’s energy striking the window to pass through. The amount of the sun’s energy transmitted through a 20cm square piece of glass will be approximately 216 BTU’s. With Klingshield’s silver 20 reflective film applied to the window, only 24% or 52 BTU’s will pass through.
An airconditioning unit rated as a one ton unit can remove 12 000 BTU’s per hour from the area. If 12 000 BTU’s are falling on the outside of the window area of a building, the application of Klingshield’s silver 20 reflective reduces the transmission of solar energy by 76%, then Klingshield’s reflective will reduce the amount of airconditioning required to handle the portion of the heat load contributed by the windows, by 76%
. Other heat sources include the number of people in the building, lighting, solar energy transferred through the walls and roof and the electrical equipment in the building. klingshield. co.za
