Muggles – or non-magician lay folks -- can now have a magical experience of the enchanting world of Harry Potter and his friends – the young magicians at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, the magic and mystery of J.K. Rowling’s protagonist’s world has come alive in the real world at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park. This place has been hailed by thousands of Harry Potter fans who have visited the Harry Potter theme park till now as ‘the most realistic theme park ever’. Placed at and maintained by Universal Orlando Resort in Florida, this park is having record footfall of tourists. Even visitors who are not exactly fans of Harry Potter and his friends are enjoying the magical surrounding.
The sprawling 20 acre compound of the Harry Potter theme park has cost more than 160 million pounds. Every nook and corner of the park brings to life the magic campus of Harry Potter’s school, the school building with its turrets, dungeon, the dimly lit mystery tunnels, forbidden forests and ‘owlery’, the streets and markets, the houses and office buildings. Fans of Harry Potter adventures are really enjoying the guided tour around the Hogwarts Castle, at Ollivander’s wand shop, at Zonko’s shop, and a drink or a snack at the broomstick restaurants. The wooden structures, the dingy lanes and alleys, the high ceilings, huge portraits on the walls of Hogwarts, the antique furniture all add to the realistic feel of the place.
The setting looks distinctly similar to that which was shown in the Harry Potter films. Warner Brothers- the producers of the series of films- were fairly hopeful about the success of this project from the very beginning. Their expectation was proven true after the gates of the Harry Potter theme park at Universal Orlando Resort were opened on June 18, 2010. Fans and other visitors rushed to this spot at the Isle of Adventures section at Universal Orlando Resort. The limited preview was soon expanded to a full time show. And now everyday thousands of visitors from all over the world are crowding at the Harry Potter theme park.
The visitors of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter can also pick up lovely souvenirs like coins in the magic world currency – Galleon. They are a little expensive. But the beautiful and flawless gold, silver and bronze coins with the impression of the Gringotts’ Bank are very popular with the fans who are visiting this theme park. One can also pick up a wand (although muggles can’t make them do any magic, nor swish them the right way) from Ollivander’s wand store. Visitors can even get magic brooms for themselves, although which, like the souvenir magic wands, can’t help them fly. But at least they can lay hands on these magic items that are for real in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park.
