If we move in the technical details of Panchkarma, it comprises of five Karmas. These karmas are the therapeutic measures that are undertaken for the purification of the body. In Ayurveda, Ayurvedic treatment methods take it as a vital for any therapy. Panchkarma purifies and cleans the impurities and dust from the body. Panchkarma is a well known therapy that consists of five major procedures that together purify the whole body and eliminate the accumulated toxins from it. A standard Panchkarma therapy comprises treatments like Virechana (Purgation), Vamana (Emesis), Snehavasthi (Medicated Oil Enema), Kashayavasti (medicated decoction enema) & Nasya (Nasal Administration).
Panchkarma can be administered in persons who are healthy or suffering from diseases. Panchakarma impacts as a preventive, restorative and rejuvenative effect on the body. Vamana is the medicated emesis mechanism and comprehensive therapy which removes Kapha toxins collected in the body. It also reduces the impurities from the respiratory tract. The treatment is offered to a person who is affected by high Kapha imbalance. Among primary benefits of Vamana, Bronchial Asthma, Chronic Allergies, Hay Fever, Vitiligo and Psoriasis are the primary one. Another process Virechana is a medicated purgation therapy which p0rohibits Pitta toxins from the body especially in the liver and gallbladder. It completely cleanses the gastro-intestinal tract in the body. Virechana is very effective in the treatment of Chronic Fever, Diabetes, Asthma and other Skin disorders.
Enema is considered as the base of all Panchakarma treatments as it cleanses and purifies the accumulated toxins from all the 3 doshas, Vata, Pitta and Kapha, through the colon. It's also highly beneficial and rejuvenating treatment recommended by Ayurveda experts. It cures Paraplegia, Colitis, Convalescence, Cervical Spondylosis and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Nasya, another Panchkarma activity involves administration of medicated oil through the nose. It therefore cleanses accumulated Kapha toxins from the head and neck region of the body. Nasya benefits in the treatment of Insomnia, Elimination of excess Mucus Hyper pigmentation in the face, Pre-mature graying of hair and clarity to voice etc. Raktamokshana is another effective yet risky procedure that cleanses the blood but advised to the patients in very rare conditions. This method is not advised during the general Panchkarma.
