L.A is the city of celebrities, of sunshine and young dreams. It is a great city to explore, and is spread out enough to make taking an RV in and around the city possible. Things to see and do in the city likely need no introduction, but include the Hollywood sign, Mulholland Drive, the Walk of Fame, sports games at the Staples Centre, The Santa Monica Pier and tours of stars’ homes. The beaches of the city are another attraction- see and be seen at Venice Beach, spot celebrities in their natural habitat at Malibu and try to avoid reality TV cameras down the coast of the O.C!
A classic RV trip destination from Los Angeles is Las Vegas, and then on to the Grand Canyon. It is only 4 hours between the cities, and well worth it- Las Vegas is a city to put on your bucket list. The hotel-casinos alone are worth the visit, as all are lavishly decorated and almost like something out of a fantasy. There is a hotel with an amusement park inside! Come on! Walking the strip at night is an experience to remember. The Grand Canyon is around 4-5 hours away from Las Vegas, and is truly some of the world’s most unique scenery. There are many places to view the Canyon from, each giving a different perspective. These include Maricopa Point, Powell Point, Hopi Point, Mojave Point and The Abyss.
Phoenix is another destination that is a day’s drive from LA. It is the capital of Arizona, and extremely hot in the summertime! The Desert Botanical Garden is a fascinating place to visit to see the flora that thrives in the Arizona desert.
San Diego lies down the coast from Los Angeles, just before the border with Mexico. The beaches of the city are lovely, and it is home to the SeaWorld theme park and the impressive San Diego Zoo. The more adventurous may wish to cross the border into Mexico, where the first city is Tijuana. Beware of wait times at the border however!
A trip north from LA will eventually end up in San Francisco, and there are some nice places to stop along the way. Santa Barbara, not far from LA, is referred to as the Riviera of the West for its wide beaches, wineries and lush surroundings. San Luis Obispo further along is a small college town which is one of California’s oldest communities and is situated between two mountains with opportunities for mountain biking, hiking and the like. Monterey Bay with the great Monterey Bay Aquarium comes just before San Francisco.
