Get under a Medical and Physical Check-up

This is the one preparation you need to get you going on the right path to bodybuilding. Whether or not you are serious about it, it pays to know exactly what your body can and cannot take.

• A routine check-up should reveal if you have medical and physical condition that will constrain certain types of workout in part or in whole. Hernia condition may not allow you to engage in some heavy workouts. In extreme cases where you are diagnosed with kidney or liver abnormality, any kind of protein intake needed to increase muscle mass will prove hazardous to your health. Bodybuilding to be successful requires a healthy heart, lungs, kidneys and liver. A suitable and thorough blood, PSA, cholesterol, liver and kidney tests can confirm if you have what it takes to make into this sport.

• Make sure your check-up includes a hormone test with particular emphasis on testosterone IGF-1 level as well as thyroid levels to ensure that the body can manage the workout stress and metabolize with optimum efficiently. Any kind of hormonal imbalance is sure to impair your body’s ability to develop muscle mass.

• Do a treadmill to check if your heart and lungs can take it. Be sure that you have a good pulse and blood pressure to undertake the rigors of bodybuilding.

At Home or In a Gym

A respectable gym can have the trained specialists and the equipment needed to give you the workout support to get the body shape you want. Of course this will cost. The alternative is to do it at home. There are pre-owned gym gears you can get at a bargain that still works like knew. Dumbbells are cheap but they can be a steal from fellow bodybuilders who may have outgrown them. As a beginner, you can inherit them. So check them out. Bodybuilding workouts at home can be just as effective but you just have to remember these:

• Allocate the right space for your workout gears and around them. That can help prevent any accidents for you or any member of the family who might have to be near when working out.
• Adequate ventilation is a must. This is no problem in gyms, but be sure to have that at home.
• Workouts during the summers can risk heat strokes if you don’t get adequate cooling or ventilation. Schedule your routine early in the morning or at night when the weather is cooler.
• You won’t get the benefit of a seasoned gym advisor or supervisor to check on your routines and your condition, so be extra careful. Learn about danger signs like difficulty in breathing or cold sweats that are signs you may go into shock. It may be a good idea to monitor your pulse rate and blood pressure say, every 30 minutes during any workout and have someone present in case you need to be attended to for whatever reason.
