Activision will not bet on games for mobile or Facebook.

Activision boss Bobby Kotick tells Reuters that the rates of growth in the traditional game stations, and that they do not see great opportunities in the iPhone and games designed for social media like Facebook.
- The place where we have opportunities to grow within the brands we have control over. We do not see great opportunities for dedicated game on the App Store, "said Kotick, while adding that iPad may be interesting in the future. Just not yet.
Activision has released several games for the iPhone, including Guitar Hero and Call of Duty offshoots, but has not hit the nail on the head with those games.
Game Developer David Braben Legend has also spoken out negatively about the App Store, where he has said that it is "hard to find goodies from all the trash."
When it comes to social media is the business model that does not seem attractive to Kotick. He believes it is difficult to make money on such games.
- These are different to approach a business opportunity. Right now we do not see an opportunity for us to participate in the market.
The competitor Electronic Arts in contrast to Kotick believes strongly in games for mobile phones and social media. Last year they bought the "Norwegian" fish play games company, which specializes in games for Facebook and who this summer launched the FIFA Superstars. "
This fall also bought EA Chillingo - the publisher behind the super success of 'Angry Birds, "which has sold several million on iPhone. The game was also released in an advertising-free version of the Android phones a few months ago. It has now been downloaded by over eight million Android users worldwide.
Most of the revenues in Activision Blizzard is now coming from the giant MMO a "World of Warcraft," "StarCraft II" and "Call of Duty" series. The last game in "Guitar Hero" series did very poorly on the charts, as was the case with "DJ Hero 2" and "Tony Hawk: Shred".
Kotick admits that the music game genre has been a blow.
- It's a challenging market right now ... I think we have some work to do to find new ways to innovate, "he says.
EA and MTV also released the latest game in the rival music game franchise Rock Band in the fall, but despite great reviews - including signed us PressFire.no - has not this game delivered good sales figures. The developer behind, Harmonix, is now for sale.
