Friends, Today we are going to learn about algebraic expressions. Before going further we need to know about what is an equation? Basically an equation is a mathematical expression which shows the equality of two expressions. For example 2x + y = 6. Algebra is a branch of mathematics in which letters and symbols(Arabic numerals , literal numerals or mathematical operators) are used in place of numbers and quantities to form an equation and formula.

Let's take an example:

x – z = c

Here x and z are variables, c is a constant and 1 is a coefficient of variable x and 1 is a coefficient of variable z.

As we move towards higher education, the algebra problems become tougher and more complex.

A daily practice will help you to get confidence. linear equations and differential equations are also known as algebraic expressions.

Let's see how linear equations relates with an Algebraic equation. In simple form we can say that any algebraic equation that when graphed produces a straight line, the equation is called as linear equation. The common form of a linear equation in the two variables like x and y is

y = mx + b

where x and y are two variables and m and b are two constants.

The constant m determines the slope or gradient of that line and the constant b shows the point at which line crosses the Y-axis. Constant b also known as Y-Intercept. Linear equations can be solved in two ways:

First one is by isolating the variables and the second one is graph method to solve linear equation in two variables. The graph of every linear equation in two variables is a linear equation.

Differential equations is a mathematical equation for a function having several variables which relates the value of function itself and its derivatives of various derivatives. It plays an important role in solving problems of various fields like engineering, physics, economics and other areas also. Differential equations are of two types: An ordinary differential equation and a partial differential equation.

Common forms of differential equations in a homogeneous first-order linear constant coefficient ordinary differential equation:

du/dx = cu + squared x
