Most times people confuse between CD Duplication and CD Replication using them as synonyms for each other. Whereas CD Duplication and CD replication are totally different methods by which data can be stored on a diskette. CD Duplication is a process commonly used everywhere by most computer users to copy data using CD Burners or CD Duplicators.
CD duplication in simple terms is wherein data is actually burned on the surface of the disc using CD burners or CD Duplicators. You only need software and a CD burner which lets information to be burned automatically on a recordable CD. If there is a need for additional copies then the entire process needs to be repeated. CD Duplication is used mostly for personal use as it is an inexpensive method of transferring data to a recordable CD. CD Duplicators are used by individuals or organizations who want to quickly duplicate more number of CD’s at a time thus reducing process time. CD Duplication is used mostly when the desired number of copies is low.
CD Replication is more professional method of making copies of CD by molding the disk to be an exact copy of the original disk. It can be also called as a professional method of ‘CD burning’.
For instance, if you have an original CD of your compositions and want to make copies which of really high standard then CD replication is what you need. CD Replication will ensure that the copies produced are of good quality, reliable and durable giving a professional look to the finished product.
In CD replication the original copy is used to create a glass master. A set of molds or stampers which act as a blueprint for the process of replication are then created using the glass master. The molds or stampers are then mounted onto the injection mold machine to create a replica of the mold in the form of a disc. A very thin layer of Aluminum is then coated on the disc which is then finally coated with layer of lacquer and hardened with the help of ultraviolet light. Every CD is made in the exact same way thus ensuring that the reproduced CD’s are of high quality and exact replicas of the original.
CD duplication and CD replication are both methods of making copies from the original discs. CD duplication is mostly used for personal use whereas CD replication is more suitable for a commercial use.
