Basically, it is divided into three wings: the army, the navy and the air force. The Indian Army is basically entrusted with protecting the borders of the country, as the long borders are to be properly protected from alien forces. The Indian navy not only protects the naval base and keeps the sea-line open and safe in all times so as to promote trade and safeguard the marine affairs, it also has to look after the sustained development of the island territories that are situated far away from the mainland. The Indian Air force has been serving the country since six decades by raiding the skyline and keeping us protected while we fly from one place to the other. IAF is a sophisticated and hi-tech wing which not only interests in the safeguard of the skylines but also provides extensive relief operations to places wherever and whenever needed.

A graduate can enter the defense jobs by giving the combined defense service examinations, they are further trained by bases in Dehradun and Chennai, and then they can be permanent officers. The Engineering graduates under Technical graduate scheme can join the defense when they are in the last year of their program, and have the facility of joining directly as captains when completed with their degree.

Women’s entry in the defense jobs has become equally tough and popular, and the history has stated them performing quite hand to hand with their male counterparts. Their entry is also in the hands of the Selected Service Scheme, once admitted they can serve unto 14 years after completion of their training.
