How do you decide on the right removal company for moving house for you? It’s easy. Are you are doing a long distance move or a local move? If you are crossing state lines you may have to use a removal company that is certified as a long haul moving company. The smaller removal companies may not have the personnel nor the licenses or insurance to make an out of state move. The smaller companies may do the actual price estimating of moving your household goods, but may have a contract with a long haul company to actually make the move. The local company may provide the personnel to load the truck however and will probably hire more personnel at the destination as no moving company will take along personnel and pay them on a long haul move. It is much cheaper to hire people at the destination.

Your next decision is which moving company you are going to use for moving house. For this decision you will need to get the names of several moving companies so you can get at least two cost estimates for the complete move. You will only get a cost estimate as the items may change that are to be loaded come moving day. This means that when the day of moving house arrives you may have sorted out items that you don’t want moved or changed your mind about others that you now want moved. They may have estimated the weight of an item as lighter or heavier so the actual weight may change. If you are being charged by the pound then this will make a difference on the cost estimate and what you are actually charged. And no mover can read your mind. Especially if you sort of wave your arm at a wall of stuff in the garage and tell the estimator that none of this will go and it turns out that a lot of it does in fact go.

It does behoove you to eliminate as much stuff as you can before moving day. You should make some firm decisions as to what goes and what can you get rid of. Put in simple terms, do you really want all of the stuff you have to come into your new home? If you take a good look at your things you should decide if perhaps your children have outgrown some of their toys or sporting goods. Are all of you assorted pots and pans really still usable? Do you still use all of your pots and pans?

As we get older we tend have an accumulation of items that we will never use again. Some of them my be valuable antiques that you want to leave in your will to your children but other things such as dented pots or pans really don’t belong in our life anymore. Warped bottoms of pots make for an unevenly cooking surface which leads to burned food. So leave those sorts of things behind.
