If you have confidential information in the form of paper documents or computer files, shredding is the best option available to ensure it does not fall into wrong hands.

There is certain information that you can share with the world, and then there are those that you cannot let anyone get their hands on. In the present times, data of any kind is stored mainly in two forms. One is the paper based data storage, where a person collects and preserves paper based documents in files etc, and then there is the computer based data storage, where data is stored in computer files. While the former is tangible, the latter is intangible. However, every form of data irrespective of how they are stored is under the risk of misuse by second or third party people. Generally, confidential professional data and some personal information is constantly under threat and attack from others who want to make illegitimate use of it. Data protection thus becomes very important.
It rightly said that sometimes the best way to protect your data is to destroy it. You may keep your digital data under password protection and may keep your paper based documents under lock and key, but these are never unbreachable. It is very easy to hack into someone’s password and get access to vital information stored in the system, sometimes without the owner even knowing about it. The information can be used against the interest of the owners. Tangible lock and keys are easier to break into. There have been so many cases when people lost paper based documents and it took only hours to notice that the vital information printed there getting used for shady purposes. The solution is simple. If you want no one to come across your data then the best thing to do with it is to destroy it. Data destruction is a very potent method of data protection and is witnessing wide scale application in the present times.
One of the best ways of destroying data is shredding. The simplest forms of shedding that we some across almost everyday is tearing a piece of paper into small bits before disposing it. Most commonly we see paper documents like credit card bills, bank statements, medical reports, and other paper based documents as such being torn before throwing away. However, tearing is not very effective as certain pieces of the document may still contain vita information that can be read and misused. Paper shredders are perhaps the best way of data destruction as far as paper based information is concerned. When passed through a shredder, these devices ensure that the paper is shredded in ways that will make the data absolutely irrecoverable.
Data protection in case of digitally stored files is also possible through destruction. Digital file shredders can remove files from both softwares and hardware. By no means can any computer genius recover the destroyed files once they are removed by the file shredders. In short, the destroyed documents just cease to exist thus making the vital information inaccessible to all. Choosing data destruction for protecting the same from being misused is an accepted and successful idea at present.
