Women can never have enough knowledge when it comes to symptoms of ovarian cysts because many times the signs are somewhat vague. The majority of cysts on ovaries are called functional cysts and do not usually pose a problem. At times, an ovarian cyst may produce a very dangerous situation if medical assistance is not sought.
Cysts on ovaries can be a frightening diagnosis for women, however the truth is... many times symptoms of ovarian cysts are so vague, they can easily be mistaken for common illnesses. A woman may believe that her menstrual period is simply more painful than usual, and neglect scheduling an appointment with her doctor.

The fact is...the majority of women who are of childbearing age have experienced an ovarian cyst at least once in their lifetime. They were very possibly unaware of it though, because many cysts will disappear on their own, requiring no treatment. This type of cyst on ovary is called a functional cyst.

It is well known that drinking plenty of water each day can help to prevent ovarian cysts, however if a cyst already exists...any of the following will have already manifested...

If a cyst causes severe pain in the lower abdomen (ovary pain) that comes on suddenly, or one of the other telltale symptoms of ovarian cysts, it is always better to make an appointment with a physician so that they can verify that these cysts on ovaries are not malignant. It is important to mention that nearly all of the ovarian cysts removed are non-cancerous, however it is best to play it safe with matters relating to a woman's health.

Should a patient experience a fever or vomiting along with very severe pelvic pain...that is cause for alarm and should be considered an emergency! Another warning sign of problematic ovarian cysts is a rapid heartbeat, which is accompanied by dizziness, weakness or faintness. A woman's doctor needs to be contacted without delay if any of the aforementioned symptoms are present. An additional concern for a woman is abnormal bleeding...or bleeding in between periods.

Experiencing more than one of the vague symptoms that follow below may also be cause for concern, though.

Some of the more generic symptoms of ovarian cysts (which could resemble every gynecological issue) could be...more painful than usual periods...and weight gain. Swelling, pressure or pain in the abdomen, as well as a dull ache in the lower back are more signs of cysts on ovaries. Nausea or vomiting...pain during sex or breast tenderness are other common symptoms that might point to a cyst on ovary.

It is important for a woman to pay attention to when these problems first became known and if they are present for longer than five weeks...an appointment with a gynecologist should be scheduled.
