Cricket in USA started during the reign of the British Empire; it was the era when the Union Jack wrapped Uncle Sam through its supremacy and introduced the gentleman's sport in the country. But the game was short lived due to the popularity of "baseball" while it was played mostly by the white-collar.

Cricket made its way in America around the early 18 century; the sport was introduced by the Britishers proving their dominance and reign in the country. While going through subjective evidence it was seen that George Washington used to be a strong supporter of cricket and took part at least once with his troops at Valley Forge during the American Revolution. Another fine example was seen in 1844, when United States played their first international cricket match which was against Canada at St George's Cricket Club ground in Bloomingdale Park, New York. This was the first time when the numbers spoke for them, 20,000 spectators witnessed the first international sporting rivalry in the modern era. A bet of around $120,000 was placed on the outcome of the match. After this Cricket in USA became a popular game and was carried on for next seasons. But the sport was short lived due to various seasons.
The popularity of cricket was seen in the 18th and early 19th century but it was soon displaced by baseball in the 1850s and 1860s. Now, the people started to show interest in the latter sport which encouraged the rules of the game to change to gain its popularity. For example, round bats were introduced in contrast to the flat ones which were used to play cricket. Another reason for the sport to decline sharply was it remained an amateur sport especially reserved for the wealthy class while Australia and England were looking to develop a professional version of the game. The professionalism of the sport improved everywhere in the world but North American cricket clubs stayed obstinately exclusive. Clubs such as Merion and Philadelphia abolished the sport and invested their facilities to other games while others intentionally contributed to their falls by sponsoring auxiliary baseball teams. The reasons were sufficient to push cricket outside the country while baseball easily filled up the gap and was played mostly within the blue-collars. Since, then cricket in USA failed to reclaim its past glory but as America is occupied by thick population of Indians and the growing popularity of the sport in the global market many TV providers have introduced Cricket channels in USA.
Reasons could be numerous, but Cricket In USA is slowly returning to its normal place while the cricketing council ICC has introduced America to play in the major tournaments. But in spite of the efforts from the cricketing council, cricket in United States remains an unpopular sport which could take 100 years to regain its popularity back.
