If you want to enhance your learning, and make it much more effective and productive, why not try to create a good study environment?
As known, if you have a clear goal and high motivation for your study, a good plan for your study including an effective time management, and good reading and note taking skills, you may do well in your learning. But if you pay attention to the environment and create one suitable for your study, you will be much more effective and productive in learning.

Setting up an appropriate environment for studying is a personal affair. There’s no one rule that can be applied to every people and every situation. The environment they consider best for their learning will vary according to their preferences and prejudices. For example, some folks concentrate better with the iPod shuffling song after song into their ears at full volume, while others cannot focus unless there’s nothing but stone silence in the background.

So, you should find a place can provide few distractions to allow for maximum concentration, or a place where essential materials can be stored. The nature of learning task also dictates a particular study environment, which you have to take into account when you designate the place.

However, here we have some general rules that you can apply for creating a good study environment.

1.Concentration. Concentration is pretty important. And the ideal environment will be one you hardly even notice as you study. Find a quiet location, or just turn off the TV set and your cell phone if possible so as to not to be interrupt by people. If you are studying on your computer, you’d better set out some time to check your emails and social networking sites before or after studying to make sure you won’t get distracted by them.

2.Lights. Check out the level of lighting before studying. There has to be sufficient lighting so that you won’t have any trouble looking over your learning materials. If it is too dim, your eyes will be strained and leave you tired and wanting to close your eyes. Sun is a light that naturally wakes you up and helps you think. Florescent lights can leave your eyes tired as they are flickering off and on and your eyes have to adjust constantly. Indirect lighting over your work area usually works best.

3.Put some foods around you. Keep something to drink and snack on close by to keep your blood sugar stable. Obviously sugary foods will give you a quick rush but you will also have a quick low afterward. Simple veggies or fruit are good choices or crackers--something not too high in calories. But sometimes sugar and junk food can hamper concentration, so don’t eat too much. Just realize that this is a perfect scenario for mindless eating since you will be thinking about your studies and without thinking you will eat a whole bag of potato chips.

4.The location. Some people has much strict requirements about the location, but actually sometimes the outside environment might help or hinder people’s learning efforts. For example, some people feel more comfortable learning in a familiar setting in their own houses, or perhaps in a secluded site at a library or a park. But if it is a place that you will associate heavily with another activity snacking in your kitchen, watching TV or playing computer games in the living room, which would be not a good place for study.

If you want to enhance your learning, and make it much more effective and productive, why not try to create a good study environment? It may give you big surprise.
