The first thing to make a paper is to select a proper subject and then to make a proper problem statement from this. After having made the preliminary test, the planning and organization of research may begin. The research can be of two types, one is called observation and the other interview. If the research is done through observation, the researcher merely presents the schedule to the respondents and makes note of their behavior. He puts no questions. If the researcher employs the method of interview, he personally asks the questions and he records the replies in the appropriate spaces in the schedule. Generally, however, the method of interview is used in research. Mere observational research is rare. Some of the important steps in organizing a research are-
1) Selection of respondents- Having prepared the schedule and having tested it for intelligibility and reliability, the next step is the selection of respondents who are to be interviewed and to whom the schedule is to be presented. Each and every member of a group may be interviewed, in which case there is no selection, or some of them may be chosen for the purpose. The first method, where there is no selection, is known as census method. Whereas, the second, involving selection, is known as sample method.
2) Knowledge about respondents- The field worker has to encounter individuals of diverse cultures and traditions and unless he is well informed about their culture, beliefs and traditions he will cut a sorry figure. For example, it is customary and deemed an honor, to entertain guests by providing them women companions, by the natives of Polynesia. A missionary who went to have an audience with the Polynesian king was offered choice between two lovely damsels. Not understanding the native language, the missionary gestured refusal. The king was annoyed but he maintained his cool headedness; he offered the missionary both damsels because he couldn’t possibly conceive that anybody would spurn a lovely damsel and therefore, thought that the missionary was not satisfied by having only one beautiful girl. This example clearly brings out the crucial point that as a teacher should know both Latin and John, the research worker, must know his schedule as well as his respondents.
3) Scientific outlook- A researcher must have a scientific approach to the research. He must not have any strong likes and dislikes. He must not entertain some pet theories about different events. He must be open minded and prepared to see things in their proper perspective. He should also be free from all kinds of prejudices and predilections. If he has some preconceived strong notions, he is liable to distort the information to suit his ideas. Accordingly, an objective and scientific outlook is very essential for a good researcher.
After collection of data the collected data will undergo different analytical treatment and after that we can come to any final conclusion.
