This part of the Spain was first settled by the Phoenicians. Later, the Costa del Sol fell under the rule of Rome, and Moors. Each of these cultures has left their marks, which primarily can be seen in the architecture.
Although in terms of cultural and architectural attractions Costa del Sol is often in the shadow of nearby Seville. However, Costa del Sol and Malaga have some of greatest examples of old architecture - from the Romanamphitheater from the 1st century BC, through the Moorish fortress and the baroque cathedral.

Transport

This part of Spanish coast has been intensively developed for decades, and more over its infrastructure is well planned. Along the coast is the highway Autopista del Sol, which is a relationship with attractive cities such as Seville, Granada and Cordoba.
Besides the Autopista del Sol, there is an old coastal road N340, which is considerably slower, but if you take this road you will certainly enjoy in beautiful scenery.Airport is located 10 minutes drive from Malaga, which is the biggest town on the coast.

New Attractions
In recent years, tourists have been increasingly attracted to the picturesque villages in the areas that are ten kilometers from the sea. However, in spite of the increasing influx of tourists, the region has managed to retain its archaic charm.
Passengers with a little more adventurous spirit will go deeper in land and discover the untouched villages of old Andalusia, dominated by olive groves.

Orientation
Malaga (with 500,000 inhabitants) is located in the center of the Costa del Sol. The coast is divided into western and eastern, right and left from Malaga.

The west coast of Malaga is developed, with huge tourist complexes, while the east coast is calmer and less familiar.
