Consider Your Time As An Investment Of Your Life

No one else is going to consider your time valuable until you do.

My teacher used to tell me that everything I do is an investment of time. No matter what you do, you will find many results that influence your future. For example, if you watch TV, it is an investment that you make into entertainment. If you watch a show that sucks, you are making a bad investment. Though you can get to the conclusion that you don’t want to waste your time in it any more, you’ll also receive a poor return for your time.

Time is money, as an old saying goes. But time is not money. It is much more valuable than money. Because you can get your money back if you lose your money, in a business failure or steal by a thief. But if you cannot get back any single minute once you spend it.

If you think of time as a commodity, and put all the actions as investments, it will change your life a lot. We spend your time in many different ways, working, eating, sleeping, exercising, entertainment, etc. All of these things are important. All of the activities are important to keep us in balance of our life and work.

Unlike making investment with our money, determine how to invest our time is a formidable task. As time cannot be retrieved again, it will be much more essential to make the right choice. I am not an expert, and really far from it. I just want to share some experience of making decision with all my friends.

Face stuffs with multiple positives, and avoid multiple negatives.

A multiple positive is an activity that generates a positive return in more than one area. And as its name implies, multiple negatives can expect the complete opposite of the multiple positives.

Every individual will have different multiple positives, but most people have the same multiple negatives. A multiple positive for a software developer might be working on open source or a personal project, or even play basketball or a fun game after work, which will benefit for their getting the creativity and a health body and mind. But if he go out drinking while he face some difficulties, or just because he wants to kill some time, it will be a multiple negative way. And the time he spent isn’t productive, staying up late and hangover usually ruins the following day. Besides, drinks are really expensive.

In fact, if you keep analyzing your behaviors periodically, you can alarm yourself with the multiple positives and alarm yourself with those things.

The key to find multiple positives is to find areas where different positive actions intersect. Or you can only change your attitude through many things, and try something new but good to your future.

Utilize the power of compounding interests.

When you invest money you earn interest. Then you start earning interest on the money you earned from interest. Over many years this continues to compound and eventually leads to a very large sum of money.

This concept can also apply to time. If you invest time by working hard when you’re young, you’ll put yourself in a position to succeed that will continue compounding for the rest of your life.

And I heard a theory before that people usually have more interest in things they can do, especially they can do best. Every person know what he likes and what he wants, but if they put them into practice and find them difficult to deal with, they will lose their interest in it. People are more intended to be more interested in the things they can do best.

So don’t waste your time, and make your time valuable and profitable if possible. Actually no one else is going to consider your time valuable until you do. If you want to acquire the wealth that will provide the freedom to live your ideal lifestyle, start thinking of every decision as an investment.
