As you are designing your new web-site, you'll be tempted with web design ideas that could turn in to deadly mistakes.
There are tons of website on the Internet, and plenty website are created by day. Building a website is easy but the real challenge lies in making it usable. In a web One common rule is ‘7-second rule,’ meaning your visitor has to be able to figure out what you’re about and what you offer in 7 seconds or less .But bad site design from a usability perspective will certainly kill your site’s good will.

Below is a list of the most common web design mistakes. Some of the points are common sense, others are quite polemic

Pages Load Too Slowly

Using too many images, or inserting large images on a web page, slow down the loading time of your web page. Flash is also increasing the load time of your website, excessive usage of Flash might also annoy the visitors. Use it only if you must offer features that are not supported by static pages. Optimize your images before you insert them on your site, otherwise your visitors will leave before your site is loaded.

Poor Navigation – Navigation within a website should be seamless .navigation means visitors can’t easily find the information. Broken links, error pages or other too many moving objects all these will annoy the visitor and cause him to click elsewhere. If text is used as navigation, it should be concise

Complicated registration form

Registration forms are tricky. How much information do you require from the user? Gone are the days where a user had to enter a zillion details to register to your website. Some websites make most registration fields mandatory and validate the fields to the extent where the user is frustrated after a few tries. Remember, users visit a website to acquire information. Not the other way round.

Using ‘drop down’ menus.
You should provide your visitors with a clear perspective of the website’s navigation. A ‘drop down’ menu, for example, could hide the information your visitor is looking for.

Heavy Banners

limit your banners to the bare necessities. Why? Because banners are graphics that can slow loading time and are a turn-off for many surfers on the internet. For most, "banner" is just another word for "ad" and they avoid clicking on them.

Browser compatibility

Make sure your site is correctly displayed in all browsers. This is a big problem, it needs much work, and you have no other choice but to make the site compatible with the latest and most popular browsers.

Non-standard link colors

It has become conventional for links to pages that have not been visited by the user to be blue, and links to previously seen pages to be purple. Don’t invent your own color codes; you will only confuse visitors to your site.

"Noise" and Clutter

Even if you have a great site, if your visitors are forced to wade through long blocks of copy, promotional offers, animation, sales pitches, and worthless dribble, you'll quickly confuse them and drive them away.

Graphics Overload

Of course, graphics are an important part of any website and web designers spend a long time making sure they are exactly right. There is, however, a need to get the balance of graphics on a website right.
