Cold And Cough Home Remedies - Minimize Symptoms Naturally

Cold and cough or common cold, is the most prevalent illness. The major cold and cough symptoms are cough, sneezing, headache, body ache, runny or stuffy nose and mild fever.

Some people suffering from cold and cough also experience loss of appetite, lethargy and insomnia. Intake of frozen food, fried food, cold drinks, chilled water, and seasonal changes lead to cold and cough.

Home Remedies

1. Chew slowly a clove, 2 cardamoms and few raisins. This treats sore throat.

2. Saline gargle destroys infection causing germ and improves sore throat condition.

3. Mix 1 teaspoons each of cardamom, ginger powder, black pepper and cinnamon. Add sugar to the mixture. Grind all to make a fine powder. Take 1 teaspoons of the powder twice daily. This minimizes cough and cold symptoms.

4. Take a small piece of ginger. Sprinkle salt on it and gently suck. It checks dry cough.

5. Combine half teaspoon ginger juice and half teaspoon honey. Take 1 teaspoon of the mixture thrice daily. This loosens mucous and helps to cough it up.

6. Mix 1 teaspoon honey and 1 teaspoon lemon juice in to half cup warm water. Drink the mixture several times a day to get relief from cold and cough.

7. Cut ginger in to 2 halves. Boil the pieces in half cup water for 5 minutes. Strain and sweeten with honey. Drink hot to get rid of cough and cold.

8. Crush a tablespoon of carom seeds. Tie it in a muslin cloth and keep sniffing. This de-congests nose.

9. Massage warm cow milk butter or warm olive oil on chest. This generates heat and helps in the rise of sputum.

10. Mix 1 teaspoon honey in to a cup of grape juice. Drink it daily. Grapes improve lungs tone and function as expectorant.

11. Cut 2 snow pears in to small pieces. Boil them in 3 bowls of water until it reduces to 2 bowls. Filter the liquid and add 30 grams of rice to it. Boil until the rice is cooked. Consume this soup. This is highly beneficial in treating cough and cold.

12. Mix 1 teaspoon turmeric powder in to a cup of warm water. Drink the solution daily. You can also blend turmeric powder and carom seeds and add the mixture to a glass of warm milk. Drink the milk twice a day. This works wonders in tackling cold and cough.

13. Massage heated coconut oil on chest for 5 minutes. This prevents coughing and allows uninterrupted sleep.

14. Mix 3-4 teaspoon onion juice with the same amount of honey. Take the mixture daily to keep cough and cold at bay.

15. Coat 2 unpeeled tangerines with 30 grams of rock sugar. Then steam them for some time. Consume the tangerines before going to bed. This is a great cold and cough curative measure.

16. Soak 6-7 almonds in water overnight. In the morning, peel off the skins and crush the almonds to make a paste. Add 20 grams each of butter and sugar to the paste and consume 2 times daily. This is a useful remedy for dry cough.

17. Take a cup of hot, fuming chicken soup. This will clear out nasal blockage and will you to blow your nose easily.

18. Take enough rest and relax as much as you can.

19. Consume Vitamin C rich fruits like lemons, oranges and strawberries in plenty. It will strengthen your immune system and help you defeat the cough and cold virus.
