So, how should one clean, here is the take.
Cleaning Wood Furniture
Before you set yourself, you must be aware of the type of finish on the wood; this is because the kind of cleaner to be used largely depends upon this. Basically if we look closely there are three types of wood finishes namely oil, wax and varnish. Regular cleaning will employ a dry soft cotton cloth to wipe of the dust from the surface of the furniture. Whereas, furniture's that are painted must be cleaned by using vacuum cleaner with a brush spliced to it. To clean oiled coated wooden furniture you would need to make special arrangement by mixing turpentine and boiled linseed oil in equal proportionate. Now pour the marinate mixture on a piece of cloth and gently rub the furniture this results the oil getting into the pores of the wood, resulting the shine of the oil finish wood furniture will be restored. Deck and sealing cleaning can be done in similar way by washing them by water soaked cloth.
When you intend to clean your polished wood furniture, you may need furniture polish or paste wax. If you choose the chemicals, then you must apply it quite often as its effect does not last for a long time. Paste wax is quite difficult to apply but they can be beneficial against scratches on the surface, it fills them up very well. You can also use aerosol polish but silicone content often makes the surface of the wood slippery. These methods are just the opposite when it comes to cleaning antique furniture. You can use vacuum cleaner or can simply wipe them off with a clean or dry cloth. Sometimes you can use solvent based cleaning wax which could be quite beneficial in filling small cracks of the furniture, after this a fine buffing must be done till the wax coating becomes hard.
Driving Stains out from the Wood
Like any other decorative item and furniture of the house, wooden furniture can also be affected by stains. The only remedy is to rub such stains with some amount of linseed oil; such stains generally leave ugly dark marks when burned by a cigarette. White patch marks on the wooden furniture can also be removed by using mixture of cigarette ash and lime juice or salad oil. In case of watermarks and rings formed on the wood furniture with a wax finish, a quick remedy is to apply toothpaste or salad oil on the area. Try to avoid hose pressure washing technique; this will damage your antiques and wooden furnitures.
