Civil services have always been the backbone of the country and they are considered careers of great respect and responsibility. Though IT sector has emerged as the new interest and MBA has been providing greater salaries to youth from a long time, the interest in civil services is growing. And as we see the final results of an ICS exam, the top minds of different professions like engineering, medicine and economics held the high posts there. For parents, it’s a dream to see their child as an IAS officer as it give them prestige and respect in the society.
Well, cracking a civil services exam has never been an easy task. You have to compete with the best minds and this is a multilevel process that checks all aspects of your abilities and knowledge and we get the people who really deserve this and are capable to run the country.
The syllabus for the preliminary stage of the civil services exam has been changed to meet the new challenges and now the preliminary examination is being called Civil Services Aptitude Test or CSAT. From year 2011, the new syllabus and pattern will be introduced. Earlier there used to be two papers, in which one covering the general studies and other based on a subject like history, mathematics etc. Now there will be two papers of two hours each with first paper comprising of the questions related to general awareness and the second paper comprising the questions of language comprehension, mathematics, reasoning, logics etc. CSAT 2011 syllabus consists of a variety of topics from Indian History, geography, to socio economic development and political science and general science as well. On the aptitude front it tests you on the logical reasoning, analytical ability, comprehension skill and problem solving. The NCERT Books are of great help in cracking these exams as they cover many topics required for the exam. Apart from it, one can get CSAT Study Material or can appear in CSAT Practice Tests, which are pretty helpful in preparation and time management.
The exam which is being conducted by UPSC, CSAT 2011 will be first of its type and provides a great opportunity to the aspirants who have basic general knowledge and general aptitude.
Though Civil Services Aptitude Test 2011 will go through some changes in the preliminary exams, there are no changes in the further levels. The mains examinations and the personality tests will remain same as before, as no changes in their pattern have been introduced for next year. But depending upon the success of this exam we may see an overhaul in the pattern of civil services.
