Choosing The Right Accessories For Teaching Yoga Classes

Comfortable clothing is the best rule to follow when it comes to both practising as well as teaching yoga.
You may find lots of institutes of Yoga teacher training in UK. Any style of yoga requires you to move your body, in many if not all directions. Any restriction due to tight clothing simply gets in the way of enjoying the full benefit of the stretch or posture. There is a wide range of clothing for yoga available from both sports shops as well as online retailers.

When you first start yoga, or go to a yoga class for the first time, it is advisable that you also take a small towel with you. It’s not uncommon that new students will find that they sweat a bit during the yoga sessions. The sweating will soon stop, after a few sessions, as the body gets used to working in a different way. Having said that, the dynamic yoga classes will always require you to be prepared to sweat. Astanga Yoga or “power yoga” and Bikram yoga styles are designed to be more vigorous and will require you to dress accordingly.

The Yoga teacher training courses and session starts early in the morning.These also require you to be ready to take a shower after the session, so a change of clothing is essential too. Bikram yoga, with its high humidity and temperature create a more difficult workout, but also let your muscles lose more tension, which can make certain harder poses easier to do. An important part of a Bikram routine is choosing the correct accessories.

First and foremost, you must purchase a good quality and proper yoga mat. A quality item such as the Manduka mat is a popular choice and they wear well as time goes on. You should also bring plenty of absorbent towels for your yoga classes. Have at least one large towel and two smaller ones, because you will sweat profusely. Most of the venues that focus on Bikram yoga will have the facility to shower and provide towels.

You should always have an ample supply of water for any of the Astanga or “power Yoga” classes. I always tell my yoga students to buy a handy refillable water bottle to have with them during their yoga class, although I do not teach the “power” type of yoga. Keeping hydrated is very very important.

Also, if you have long hair, tie it up to keep it out of the way. A sweatband or headband is advisable for both women and men, regardless of hair length.

In Hatha yoga, pranayama (breathing) and relaxation are an essential part of completing a practice session. Therefore, apart from a towel which you may need to wipe sweat, I also always encourage all my students to bring a blanket to cover themselves when they go in to the relaxation part of the yoga class. Especially during the winter and spring seasons. This is for maintaining a comfortable body temperature as well as feeling more relaxed.

Yoga is always done with bare feet. However there are specials socks and shoes available that may suit some yogis. With the precision in Hatha yoga, there is always a reference to arches of the feet, toes opening wide, body weight evenly spread across the base of the feet, so be prepared to remove shoes and socks and feel the mat with your toes !
