Ahhh….the open road lies ahead. You have decided to become one with nature and take a camping trip through the beautiful state of Virginia. While at the outdoor store, your gaze upon the many types of tents becomes a stare. You are lost and need some tent advice for your upcoming Virginia camping trip.
Your plan is to save a little money by camping in a tent, but you still don’t want to feel like your tent will blow away at the first sign of a breeze so what do you do? There are a few things to consider while choosing a tent. How many people will be staying inside? What time of year will you be camping? What sort of terrain will you be setting up the tent on? And what will the climate be like?
The following are some tips on choosing a tent.
Tent sizes range from one person tents to very large tents with room for tables and chairs and extra side rooms. Look for ventilation, space and sturdiness. You should rate, ahead of time, what features are important to you. Keep in mind the Virginia weather conditions can sometimes include rain or condensation so you want to look for a tent that can handle these weather conditions.
Do you want windows to be able to see nature’s surroundings or would you prefer the privacy of fewer windows and doors. If you are planning on putting a blowup mattress inside your tent, make sure there is room. Also, look for easy set-up as some tents can get pretty complicated and frustrating. You want the least amount of possible stress when it comes to setting up your campsite.
The floors of the tent are very important and should be coated with waterproof polyurethane. The wetter the ground, the thicker coating there should be. Remember too, Virginia is full of pine trees so you will want to have flooring capable of keeping those needles out of your feet and back. Also make sure there is not only enough room for your fellow campers but for your gear as well.
Relish in a nice breeze while keeping the bugs out with a bug panel built into the tent giving the tent a screen door effect. If you are camping in the fall, you can keep it zipped up to break up the wind.
When shopping for a tent at the sporting goods store, get in the tent, lie down, zip the zippers to make sure it’s right for you. Keep all this in mind and you will find the perfect tent for an unforgettable camping trip.
