The extra calories that are not able to burn up through exercises or physical activities will translate into fat, and when this fat becomes excessive and more, one will become obese.
There are a lot of things that cause childhood obesity. The main contributing factors being: lack of exercise, overeating (especially fast food and junk food), living a sedentary lifestyle, and a lack of knowledge about how to stay healthy.
Obesity presents numerous problems for the child. In addition to increasing the risk of obesity in adulthood, childhood obesity is the leading cause of pediatric hypertension, is associated with Type II diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, increase stress on the weight-bearing joints, lower self-esteem, and altered relationships with peers.
Medical causes of obesity are uncommon but they do exist and are very real. Before starting any weight control efforts it is highly advisable to see a doctor to make sure that a medical condition is not causing the child to be overweight or obese.
For many children, it's much more interesting to play video games or watch television than playing outside. This results in less exercise which is one of the reasons why more and more children become obese.
Childhood obesity can be brought about by other factors apart from lifestyle problems. While it is possible for genetic predisposition and other such factors to play a part in the formation of the problem, it is highly recommended that children who are already in the overweight category should begin regular physical activities such as sports and exercises.
Heredity: Not all children who eat fatty and rich food and have less activities tend to gain weight. Heredity significantly contributes to obesity among children.
Certain diseases: Some medical conditions and hormonal disorders can also be the predisposing factors for childhood obesity.
The lack of sleep causes an increase in ghrelin which triggers the hunger mechanism. Sleep deprivation also reduces the leptin in our bodies that tells us when we are no longer in need of food (energy). The effects of these two hormones working together is what helps keep us away from the pantry.
It is ironic that an obese child are experiencing the things that an adults is familiar with, there's a proven an effective way in dealing with this situation.
