Delhi is the capital of India and has a tremendous history. The city has been ravaged and rebuilt countless times. Hindu kings, Mughals and British have made it their capital. The British transferred their capital from Calcutta to Delhi in 1911. Since then, it has been India’s capital even after independence.
The city is situated near the Yamuna River. It has strong connectivity with other regions across the globe. Thus, cheap flights to Delhi are provided by many travel companies. Flight deals include hotel bookings, sightseeing tours and holiday packages. The city has many car rental companies, which offer rented cars to tourists.
The city is a blend of many cultures and various festivals are celebrated here. In the month of January, Lohri is celebrated. Huge bonfires are lit and popcorn, sweets, etc. are thrown in the fire. This festival is very popular in the North India and celebrates the spark of life. Some other festivals include Deepavali and Holi. Delhi has various monuments which show its dynamic past. The Red Fort, built by Shah Jehan is considered to be the pride of the city. It’s a beautiful fort which is always open to tourists. This fort, along with Qutab Minar and Humayun’s Tomb are the three World Heritage sites present in the city.
The city is divided into two parts: Old and New Delhi. Old Delhi has the beautiful market of Chandni Chowk. This market is famous for sarees and salwar kameez. Food in old Delhi is pretty cheap and of outstanding quality. Paranthas and kebabs are the special cuisine of this part of the city.
New Delhi has the big markets and modern architecture. Museums and art galleries also abound here. The Dolls Museum is a beautiful place which showcases dolls of different countries and varieties. The city is also used as the headquarters of many national newspapers and media channels.
Shopping and dining can be done in the numerous markets. The nightlife is excellent and pubs and bars usually witness a large crowd. Restaurants and guesthouses offer accommodation to the tourists. The people are very friendly and tourists are always welcomed.
