Overview
Professional Child & Youth Workers enhance the growth and development of children, youth, and their families within a wide range of therapeutic contexts.

Students will learn the principles, philosophies and characteristics of relational child and youth work practice such as co-creating relationships, working developmentally and understanding professional boundaries.

Admission Requirements
Centennial College expects students applying for admission to certificate or diploma programs to present at minimum an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent or be 19 years of age or older. Possession of minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.

Academic Requirements

• Compulsory English 12C or U or skills assessment, or equivalent

Non-academic Requirements

• English proficiency will be considered in the admissions process
• Program admission session may be required

Field Placement Requirements

Prior to each placement the student must supply:

• A vulnerable sector criminal reference check. Certain criminal convictions will disallow placement in these agencies and program completion may not be possible.
• Standard First Aid and heart saver AED (C) certification.
• A medical certificate of health to ensure freedom of communicable disease.

Monetary Requirements

• Costs for full-time study are approximately $1,700 per semester
• Textbooks and other related materials cost about $600 a year
• There will be a course materials fee each semester to cover handouts and in-class supplies
