It is located on the Tossal Hill in the Alicante Province of Spain. The reason of fame of this castle is that it was built in the times of war. It has more historical importance then the great architecture which is there in most of the cases.

The main purpose behind the creation of Castillo de San Fernando was to give strength to the Castillo de Santa Barbara during the war. For the same reason the castle is often referred as the counterpart of the main castle which was Castilla de Santa Barbara. It was also designed as a prison for war purposes in the Independence War of Spain in 1813. The castle has a great strategic location because it’s located on top of the Tossal Hill. It is a great piece of architecture in this modern era.

The city of Alicante was never captured by the French. A French general bombarded Alicante in 1812 and he was willing to capture it but was unable to do so because he went back to France for capturing Russia. As the result of attack a natural demand of a stronger defense arise. As a result this castle was built a year after to support the main castle of the city. As this castle was built in very less span of time it lacks quality of work which most of the castles have. However Castillo de San Fernando is an important castle in the Spanish history.

Whenever the historical places of the world are named then this castle is in the list. Historians love to visit places like these because these places hold great importance in their view. It is said that necessity is the mother of invention and this castle is an example of that because it was created in the time of necessity.

The name of the castle is Castillo de San Fernando which means St. Fernando Castle in English. It was named after Fernando VII. The castle was neglected once the war was over.
