Several days ago, I received an email from Linda-a patient on dialysis and she wrote in her email:
Dear Tina,
I am very glad to tell you a good news. I just got lab results yesterday after one full month on dialysis.
One month ago: GFR=18ml/min, Creatinine=3.4/ mg/dl, BUN=8 mg/dl.
Currently: GFR=11 ml/min, Creatinine=6.2 mg/dl, BUN=17 mg/dl.
This seems like an incredible improvement to me and now I feel really good. I was feeling pretty crappy when I started dialysis. I had to give up my activities and spent as long as 3 hours in the dialysis center. What’s worse, the dialysis made me nausea, skin itching, dizziness. I am really tired of it. As my renal function has obvious improvement, is it possible for me to quit dialysis?
I think many patients on dialysis may have the same question like Linda. Here I will provide some information to response this question.
For the patients on dialysis, they should know the function of dialysis firstly. Dialysis is only a replacement therapy when the kidneys can not work normally. It can help the patients remove the extra fluid and metabolic wastes from their bodies thus maintaining a favorable internal environment. Therefore, the patients can keep their normal physiological activities. For Linda, a full month’s regular dialysis can clear some metabolic wastes including creatinine, urea nitrogen and so on out of body. However, her renal function has no real improvement at all. If she stops dialysis or decrease the frequency of dialysis freely, the wastes and fluid will certainly accumulate in her body again thus aggravating her renal function further. Therefore, all patients should not stop dialysis once they start it freely.
However, with the regenerative medicines development, Stem Cell Transplant makes it possible for patients with Renal Failure to avoid dialysis and even decrease its frequency, which decline the sufferings of the patients. If you want to know more detailed information about Stem Cell Transplant and whether you’re a candidate of Stem Cell Transplant, you can consult us on line or email to kidney120@hotmail.com
Kindly Reminder:
Kidney Disease should be treated as soon as possible, thus enhancing the therapeutic effect and improving quality of life. The most important thing is to build up the confidence to fight with disease.
