The national banner of Cameroon has been flying as the country's official flag from flag poles ever since 05-20-1975, after Cameroon became an independent state. Considered a tricolor, which means that the flag is made up of three horizontal or vertical bands, it flies the colors yellow, red and green. Also, a star is shown in the middle of the center band and is colored yellow.
The Federal Republic of Cameroon came into being or existence back in 1961, when French Cameroun (which became independent back in 1960) and the former British Cameroon were united. The new nation adopted a tricolor type flag. This flag displayed and still displays up till this day the colors green, red and yellow.
Like other international historical flags, this beautiful tricolor of Cameroon shows a (yellow colored) star. On this particular banner, the star is shown on the red colored band. Initially, two stars on the green vertical band referred to the federal nature of the state. The 1972 referendum reorganized the administration of the country, and some three years later a single star on the central red colored vertical band replaced the two stars.
The applied color scheme displays colors that have used on African flags throughout the continent. These colors are also called the Pan-African colors. Flag professionals have said that the design used for the Cameroon tricolor is based on the national flag of France. The previous flag showed almost an identical use of colors. The star is called the "star of unity." The color red also is symbolic of unity.
Cameroon is located in Africa, and to be even more specific, in the western part of the continent of Africa. This republic has a great soccer team that has traveled the world to achieve successes of all kinds. This territory truly enjoys a wonderful culture that includes fascinating styles of music. The country's official languages are both English and French.
Now, the red colored section of the coat of arms, which is not displayed on the national flag of Cameroon, is charged with a map of the country and represents Mount Cameroon. The sword stars commemorate the two regions that were united to form the nation that we know today.
