It has two branches differential calculus and integral calculus. It is considered that a course in calculus paves way for more advanced courses in mathematics which are related to the study of functions and limits and generally referred to as mathematical analysis. </p> <p>Calculus has widespread applications in science, economics and engineering and can solve many problems for which algebra alone is insufficient and this knowledge of calculus is a great help with algebra.</p> <p>There are some Calculus theorems which help in easily solving the calculus problems in a faster and easier manner.</p> <p>Algebra word problems are very useful to solve real life problems like calculating interests, area of solids, volume of solids, weight of an object etc. Let's just take an age word problem which surely explain this in a better manner.</p> <p>The older brother Bob is two year older than his little sister Alice. Taken together, the sum of their ages is 8. What is the age of Bob and Alice?</p> <p>Now Read it carefully you will found that (Bob age + Alice age) = 8</p> <p>Let just assume that Bob age = B and Alice age = A</p> <p>Now Bob is 2 year older than Alice so B = A + 2</p> <p>here the total sum would be</p> <p>A + ( A + 2 ) = 8</p> <p>2A = 8 – 2 = 6</p> <p>A = 6/2 = 3</p> <p>Now we can say that age of Alice is three years and Age of Bob is 5 years. This was an example of a word problem now moving to the calculus problems</p> <p>If the position of a bus varies with a rate of r⁴/f, if we have to calculate its velocity.</p> <p>Then we know that Velocity is the derivative of position as a function of time, so just differentiate (find the derivative of) the function:</p> <p>d/dx(r⁴/f) = 4r³/f</p> <p>Calculus has various applications in the areas of science, economics and engineering and the help with Algebra suddenly increases the scope of it's use. Wherever an optimal solution is required Calculus is used. It is used in every branch of physical sciences, actuarial science, computer science, statistics, engineering, economics, business, medicine, demography and in other fields as well.
