Situated at the pinnacle of a crystal clear bay as if standing right in front of the Mediterranean Sea, Cadaques used to be the favorite town of both Salvador Dali and Picasso. Both of these artists had been drawn here because of the ultimate sea breezes and the incredible light that area offers. Cadaques still remains to be the favorite spots for enthusiasts and artists and is popular with visitors that travel from far afield and also with weekenders from Barcelona. A lot of care has been taken in developing the town so that the charm it had to be retained.
Cadaques was previously a small fishing village which was only accessible by the sea. Situated in the far northeast of Catalonia districts, Spain, it happens situated on the edge of the Peninsula Cap de Creus, the spot where Pyrenees mountains also meets with the sea. Cadaques happens to be a stunning combination of mountains, sea and beautiful whitewashed buildings that are set around the sparkling port.
It's easy to get to Cadaques, especially if you're based in Barcelona. From Barcelona you can rent a car and drive off your self uncovering the winding drive on the mountains. If you don't want to rent a car and drive, you can also take a bus. Either way, you should be able to reach Cadaques from Barcelona in 2 1/2 hours time.
Take a walk through the whitewashed city unfurling cobblestones and twisting streets, making your way towards a number of cafés, restaurants and boutiques. These quaint lanes will allow you to get lost while you explore this quiet neighborhood. As you reach the top of town, you'll be able to see the Museu de Cadaques and the Esglesia de Santa Maria. You can have a lunch at the Casa Nun which will not only allow you to have some exotic delicacies, but will also provide you a bird’s-eye view of the Cadaques port.
There is plenty to do in Cadaques. You can visit port Lligat, which was Dali’s home. If you go for a drive towards the village, you'll be able to cite the fishing hut where Dali and Gala used to live. They had lived here for quite a lot of time and added a lot of rooms to the house. You can also have a look at Dali’s sun-filled studio.
You can indulge in a number of leisure activities in Cadaques, one activity could be having a beer in a number of small bars that overlook the water at Cadaques. You can also enjoy spending some peaceful time in the sun-dappled city enjoy daydreaming about having a holiday home in Cadaques.
