The Common Admission Test or CAT is an exam which is a pre-requisite to securing an admission to the most premier B-schools in the country. It is considered to be one of the toughest exams in the country and is conducted by the prestigious Indian Institutes of Management. The exam is normally conducted during a 20 day period and the candidate is allowed to appear for the exam only once during this window. The CAT 2012 exam will be an opportunity for the sharper brains in the country to showcase their talent and stake a claim to a seat in the top management colleges of the country.
The official dates for the CAT 2012 have not been announced as yet, but it is expected to be held around the last week of October. The Common Admission Test is a computer based test on Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning and Verbal Ability. The exam is a combination of questions on these three topics and tests the aptitude of the candidates who appear for it. Many reputed colleges across the country besides the IIMs accept the score of the Common Admission Test. The colleges shortlist candidates on the basis the score in the CAT and invite them for further rounds.
The Common Admission Test was previously a pen and paper based exam but from the year 2009, the test is being conducted as a computer based exam. The Indian Institutes of Management are the most respected colleges in the country offering degrees and diplomas in business and other fields. In 2009 about 2 lakh candidates appeared for the CAT to seek an entry into one of the 7 IIMS. CAT 2012 exam will have even more candidates trying to outwit each other to be few of the most respected MBAs in the country. The quality of education imparted at the IIMs is renowned world-wide, with many of its alumni heading reputed organizations the world over. Given the stature of the exam, many other institutes in the country have decided to accept CAT scores as a basis for admission.

CAT 2012 exam will be a 2 section, 30 questions per section exam with duration, 2 hours and 35 minutes, including 15 minutes for instructions prior to the commencement of the actual exam. The students will be given 1 hour and 10 minutes for each section. The marking varies each year, marks are given for every right answer and deducted for every incorrect answer.
