Moisture is still removed from the room’s air but this is then passed over another coil which warms it up. Dehumidifiers then produce warm air. This can heat air in a very similar way to that which is used by an electric heater. Whereas a refrigerating air conditioner transfers some of the energy out of the room (when it removes the water vapor), a dehumidifier keeps it all in the room. Therefore, all the power which is input into it remains in the room and much of this is converted into heat energy. Dehumidifiers have a particularly important role in cold and damp environments, particularly in places like basements which are unlikely to benefit from a great deal of natural light. Here, they can be used to help prevent the commencement or spreading of clusters of mold spores.
